Let me say this class was worth getting up at 5 am to be there by 6 am. The instructor was amazing. She had an easy going personality that made learning and doing the moves more comfortable; I didn't feel embarrassed when I didn't know a certain yoga move. She would come around the class and help correct you so that you would do the move correctly. However she did NOT do it in a condescending way or made you feel embarrassed in front of the rest of the class. She was a perfect instructor.
The class size was small, maybe about 4-5 students including, myself. It was in a room, with the door shut and the lights dimmed very low. Once the door was shut and the music was on you forgotten there was a hustling and bustling gym right on the other side of the door. I wish the room could have a bit brighter. Maybe they could install a better dimmer light. But I get that it is yoga and you are supposed to be "relaxing". The music they played was nice. It was actually soft rock music you would hear on 94.9 FM. Most yoga facilities I've been to play the instrumental meditation music; this type of music hard to explain unless you've been to a yoga class. I preferred the change in music at this class. The only issue I had was some parts of the class were hard to hear her because of the music. It's not that the music was loud; I just think the room was so big that the music echoed throughout the entire room and it was hard to hear her. Although at one point she did turn down the music a bit which helped.
The only true issue I had was parking. I’ve never been to this gym, so it was confusing on where to park. It is located in the downtown area. There aren’t any meters and there was a few “parking spaces” on the backside of the gym. I was confused if gym members could partk there because it was on a dirt and grass field just right of the road. There was a garage but again that was confusing too because it looked like the garage was only for college students as there was St. Leo University next door. I ended up parking in the garage because I found out the garage has a few open spaces for “visitors” of St. Leo. You don’t have to have a special pass to park in the garage’s visitors section. You just pull up, get a card out the machine and park. If you are there between 1-2 hours there is not a charge for parking in the garage.
They provide yoga mats and towels. As the instructor mentioned to me this is beginner’s class. I'm sort of in between beginner and intermediate. I've been doing yoga for quite some time but most of my sessions have been DVDs. It was nice to go in a small class (no added pressure) and have someone make sure you are doing the moves correctly. I mean what is the point in doing yoga if you aren't doing it right? I was able to take home some tidbits from the instructor that I can when I do my yoga DVDs.
I really enjoyed this class. If you are planning to join this gym definitely check out the sunrise yoga. Take it from someone who enjoys waking up between 9 am -10 am this class was worth getting up at the crack of dawn for. I felt so refreshed, energized and happy all day. Even though it is yoga, you should be prepared to sweat a small bit. One last thing I almost forgot, the pace of the class was good. She wasn't so fast that you had to constantly keep up and have no idea what move was next, yet it wasn't too slow. She kept a good steady pace.
